NDA, Cavite provincial government to undertake milk feeding for

pre-schoolers

Gov. Ramon 'Bong' Revilla led a milk toast that formally launched the milk feeding program in three Cavite towns. With him are (L-R): Dr. Rustom Bernal, provincial veterinarian; Dr. Vilma Diez, provincial health officer;  Dr. Onofre S. Bonifacio,  NDA deputy administrator; and Buenaventura A. Malabayabas, NDA-South Luzon Island Office regional manager.

Some 300 pre-schoolers in the towns of General Mariano Alvarez, Rosario and Ternate in Cavite province will benefit from a milk feeding project to be undertaken by the Cavite provincial government and the National Dairy Authority (NDA).

The beneficiaries, who are in the 2-6 years age range, will be provided with 200 ml of fresh milk five days a week up to a period of 120 days.

The milk requirement will be supplied by NDA-assisted dairy cooperatives that belong to the South Luzon-based Katipunan ng mga Kooperatibang Maggagatas, Ink. (KKMI).

Project cost is Php279,000, which will be shouldered by the Cavite provincial government and the NDA on a 50-50 percent basis.

Governor Ramon “Bong” Revilla, in remarks during the launching ceremony for the said undertaking, assured his constituents that he will make milk feeding for malnourished children a continuing activity.

He stressed that real progress can be attained only if people, particularly the young, are healthy.

One way of realizing this is the regular intake of milk, which enhances physical and mental development, he added.

The kick-off ceremony was held in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (provincial board) session hall of the provincial capitol in Trece Martires.

It coincided with the nationwide observance of Nutrition Month last July, which this year focused on the theme: “Wastong Nutrisyon: Alamin at Gawin (Proper Nutrition: Learn and Put Into Practice).

Among those who also graced the occasion were  Atty. Jose M. Ricafrente, Cavite provincial administrator; Dr. Onofre S. Bonifacio, NDA deputy administrator, who represented Dr. Libertado C. Cruz, NDA OIC-Administrator; Buenaventura A. Malabayabas, NDA-South Luzon Island Office regional manager; Dr. Rustom Bernal, Cavite provincial veterinarian; Angeles C. Peñalba, provincial nutritionist; and Alice C. Ramos, nutrition program coordinator
